Hi there: I live in The Hub, and like many people, have little or no cell service. Calling 911 in a real emergency is a concern. For eg. a woman in my building 1 year ago, gave birth outside her door (with her husband present), as they could not reach 911. I tried VoIP for a landline but I cannot make any calls using it, perhaps b/c of a poor internet connection. Shaw was charging me $50.00 a month for a landline, which I disconnected a while ago. Does anyone have any advice? Is there a regular landline service provider you know that is a reasonable monthly rate?
They do basic phone for $10. It connects to your internet, but isn’t like skype. They send you a box, one side connects to your internet and the other to a wired phone. The nice thing about these services is that they register your address so it pops up on 911 when you call.
Thank you Mario for your help. I did click on the link you sent and it is voice over Internet which I already have and seems to be unreliable due to perhaps my Internet connectivity.
Yes, for sure Mario. Tried on-line 'chat' today but they could not help and told me to call a tech. help # tomorrow, which I will, Really kind of you to get back to me. I may simply have to accept that a 'regular' quite pricey landline is the best for any 911 calls :( This is a great forum and I thank all of you for initiating it and setting it up :)
good news! Was able to troubleshoot my VOiP (internet landline) and get it working :) Thank you all for caring about the issue. It is not ideal that our cellphones do not work reliably here on the mountain :(

Oh ok, maybe give your providers a call and ask them to help as it should work.
