Located on University Drive between Nelson Way and Tower Road, this new fire station will improve response time and coverage during fire emergencies, ensuring the well-being and safety of the community. The project is a partnership of the City of Burnaby and Simon Fraser University and is supported by a $30 million commitment from the federal government.
As with any construction project, there may be occasional traffic impacts and detours. The project team will work to keep any impact to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to a minimum. Any trees removed as part of building the new facility will be replaced either on site or nearby, in accordance with the City of Burnaby’s Tree Bylaw.
In January 2023, the City opened a temporary fire station in the UniverCity neighbourhood, which is fully staffed and will operate 24/7 until the new Fire Station 8 opens in 2024. For updates, visit the project page.
