UniverCity development update

For those of you who are wondering how the development of our UniverCity community is progressing, here's the latest. Please note, all dates are tentative.

  • SFU continues work on upgrades to University Drive East between Gaglardi Way and Tower Road. This stretch of road will be repaved this summer and lights will be installed. The existing sidewalk is being upgraded to a broader multi-use path along the north side of the road.

  • SFU's student family housing (Parcel 21 - see picture below for parcel locations): occupancy is imminent

  • Oslo (Parcel 33): occupancy is expected in early summer.

  • Crescent Court (Parcel 20): occupancy is expected late this summer.

  • Hamilton (Parcel 19): the parkade level of this 12-storey building is complete.

  • Arbour (Parcels 34 & 35 consolidated): developed by Intergulf will start late fall.

  • Parcels 36 & 37 (consolidated) will be de developed by Rize Alliance as purpose-built rentals ranging from 1-3 bedrooms,

  • Parcel 24 will be developed by Mosaic Homes, and will have a similar profile to its neighbouring building, CenterBlock.

  • The East Gateway project: as announced in 2018, the existing East Gateway bus loop will be rebuilt and integrated with plazas and other adjacent public spaces, including a large grassy ‘Commons’ area. This project includes bus passenger pick up being moved from the transit exchange to curb-side pick up along University High Street. This project is now about 2 years out.

  • The ultimate population of UniverCity is expected to be between 8000 and 9000 people.
